Sumilon Island

Sumilon Island is synonymous to Sumilon Bluewater Island Resort since it’s the only resort located on the tranquil Sumilon Island.

The Island remains as one of Cebu’s best kept secrets and is found on the southeastern tip of the mainland. It is 125 kilometers from Cebu City and is in close proximity to Dumaguete. The island has an area of 24 hectares and is surrounded by crystal clear waters with varying aquamarine hues. It is the first marine protected area in the Philippines and was made a fish sanctuary in 1974. During dives, one will find varied marine species and even occasional sightings of black tip sharks. Pristine white sand beaches are situated in different areas in Sumilon Island.

Note:
Additional Php 1,000 for boat transfer request in between the regular trip schedule.
Additional Php 2,000 for special boat transfer beyond the regular boat daily schedule.

Last boat trip from Sumilon mainland to Sumilon Island is 4:30pm. In case of late arrival, resort can only allow special boat trips until 7pm at PHP 2,000, subject to weather condition. Any guests arriving later than 7pm will not be allowed to cross the island. The resort may provide alternative rooms in nearby hotels but will be on pax account..
Resort highly suggest that guests take early flights especially those coming from Cebu City since it is a 3-4 hour drive to Sumilon.

CEBU CITY TO SUMILON ISLAND

If travelling by bus, Cebu City to Oslob may take upto 3 – 4 hours. The ride offers glimpses of both Filipino urban and rural life, as well as its historical past that help form the local culture. Once outside the city limits, a relaxing trip begins through a tree-canopied highway with breathtaking views of the eastern seashores.

Its Sandbar is well known for its changing shapes and shifting locations around the island, depending on the season. The fee to visit the sandbar is Php 50 per head and Php 100 for the cottage.

On the island, there is a natural lagoon teeming with high mangroves. There are also natural caves where fishermen used to seek refuge. On the southside, a lighthouse rests on a protected tree park. Beside it is a “Baluarte”, a historical watchtower built as part of a warning system to thwart slavers and marauders in the 19th century.
