Exploring Tuburan’s Natural Off-road Tourism with the Ford Ranger

Not just the design and look, multi-functional capabilities of a truck are more desired than ever. This year’s Ford Media Drive 2020 VisMin Countryside Roadtrip highlights the Ford Ranger’s “Built Ford Tough” capabilities and smart features while promoting agro-tourism, local destinations, and homegrown products as a way to support the bounce back initiatives of communities during this pandemic.

I got the opportunity to take the Ford Ranger Wildtrak last November 6 to visit a Coffee Farm and Marmol Cliff in Tuburan, Cebu. It was my first to visit Tuburan and honestly didn’t know what to expect or find.

The first destination was Tuburan’s Coffee Farm, which is the first coffee farm in Cebu. Going to the farm required taking the off-road path crossing a brook, muddy terrain, an uphill winding road, and a lot of scenic views of Cebu province.

As a sedan city driver, traversing the off-road track was a challenge if it were not for the Ford Ranger Wildtrak.

The Ranger Wildtrak 4×2 has a new wheel design, LED headlamps, camera-based Autonomous Emergency Braking with pedestrian detection and high-mount USB feature to support various dashcam models. It also has Smart Keyless Entry and push-button start, as well as up to six airbags ensuring maximum convenience and safety.

The new Ranger also offers the SYNC3 feature compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, allowing drivers to make calls, select music, and use apps with eyes on the road and hands on the wheels – the perfect companion for a long drive!

Driving off-road can be prone to truck damage caused by big rocks not visible to your line of sight. Good thing the advanced smart and safe features such as the Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) feature which helps mitigate risks by detecting pedestrians and vehicles, alerting drivers with an audible and visual warning is there to alert you. Aside from the sound, you’ll also see on the screen dashboard which side of the truck is the alert coming from.

Upon arrival at the Coffee Farm, we assisted the local farmers by loading fresh coffee harvest and seedlings to the truck and to bring it back to the processing center near the Municipal Center. Unlike typical trucks, loading is easier than ever with the Wildtrak because of Tailgate Lift Assist. With a new internal mechanism, the Ranger’s tailgate is now lighter to lift, with a 70 percent reduction in initial force required to raise it for closing.

Considering the distance and terrain, transportation of the coffee produce to the processing center in Tuburan is a challenge. There’s no public transportation available. Hence, trucks are the main mode of transportation by everyone in the area.

Indeed, pickup trucks have been transformed now into lifestyle vehicles. It’s now the tool of choice for people whose business required heavy towing, payload, and off-roading.

Pickup trucks like the Ford Wildtrak have evolved into modern lifestyle vehicles that offer the same comfort and technologies as cars, but with the versatility and toughness to function as a workhorse, business partner, family vehicle, and anything in-between. Work or play, the modern pickup truck is the ultimate expression of independence and local enterprise.
