Camotes Islands is a group of islands in the Camotes Sea, Philippines. The island group is located east of Cebu Island, southwest of Leyte Island, and north of Bohol Island. It is 34 nautical miles from Cebu City and is part of Cebu.
The Camotes Islands are made up of the islands of Pacjian, Ponson, Poro and Tulang. As a group, they are called “The Lost Horizon in the South” because of their well-preserved beauty. The beaches like Santiago Bay and Mangodlong, with gleaming waters and tranquil shores, are excellent places to swim and sunbathe in peace.
Going for some adventure? They have this Bukilat Cave in Tudela. Beneath its rough exterior recline imposing stalagmites and stalactites; also, it has an icy-cold pool that was believed to be originating from an underground spring. Another stunning cavernous secret is the challenging Timubo Cave in Sonog, where you need to make your way down a winding staircase to reach the clear waters within.
How to get to Camotes Island
Distance from Cebu City: 3 hours and 58 minutes (86.3 km).
Take a bus bound for Danao from Cebu North Bus Terminal. And from Danao, you can ride a boat that goes to Consuelo, San Francisco, Poro, or Kawit in Camotes.
- Aznar boat – Travels daily from Pier 2 (Cebu Port), Cebu City, at 9:00am to Camotes.
- Danao City port – Travel starts at 6:00am onwards. Boat’s travel time is 2-3 hours. In going to Danao port, you need ride a jeepney with #27 via Danao beside the White Gold Club House (Reclamation Area). Travel time going to Danao is 1 hour.
- Ouano Wharf – Located at Looc, Mandaue City. Travels daily starting at 1:00pm.
- You can also get to Camotes (Poro) via Ocean Jet. They have two daily trips. Cebu to Camotes is 6:00 AM and 3:00 PM and the return trip is at 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Rate is P330/pax.
