Sugbo Mercado
Sugbo Mercado in Cebu IT Park
A friend invited me to have dinner earlier to Sugbo Mercado in IT Park earlier today. We really didn’t know where was that but we just went there since there’s no way we will get lost in Cebu IT Park. Besides, we can always ask anyone there for directions.
Sugbo Mercado is located in the open space across e-bloc 2 Building (Telstra). It’s very accessible to public transport as you can ride any 17 (Apas Lahug) Jeepney and just stop in McDonald’s Teleperformance Building.
Lo and behold, the tents with bright lights and a lot of food stalls. It gives a countryside nostalgia like in American movies were anyone eats out in the park or open fields.
Upon entering the Sugbo Mercado grounds, you can then smell the different aroma and dishes from the stalls selling Japanese, European, American, Italian dishes and so much more (like pastries, burgers, taho, taco, etc.). Each food stall offers different varieties of dishes at an affordable price (usually around Php100) with some offering free rice and drinks.
The Stall that captivated my palate was the ‘Mama’s Little Secret’ located at the far back-right side of the grounds.
The Stall offered Bagnets (Pork) and a lot of awesome varieties at around Php 100 as well.
I tried the Bagnet Sisignified, it’s like the Bagnet (Looks like Lechon Kawali Pork) was chopped to tiny bits in a milky white sauce and sauteed like how sisig is cook. The Bagnet looks oily because you can see the fats, but when the food was served to us, it was heavenly! There’s no oily or greasy texture and smell. And they served a generous amount of rice. With your Php 100, you also get free cup of cold tea.
Although finding a table and chair is quite a challenge (as there are a lot of people when we went there), it never was a hindrance to eat our food standing-style.
Sugbo Mercado opens at 7pm and closes at 1am with a fireworks display at around 12midnight.
I highly recommend to every Cebuano and travelers in Cebu at the moment to visit Sugbo Mercado. Ditch your fave restaurants this weekend and try out the foods offered. I’m sure anyone can find their fave or comfort foods sold in any of the participating stalls.
