Gear Up for a Refreshing Summer: Cool Hacks to Make Your Home Summer Ready

The scorching heat this Summer is undoubtedly one of the most humid season we’ve ever experience. Turning up your AC might be the solution but it’s not economically viable for a long period of usage. While the cool breeze of AC can bring comfort, the expected increase in your electricity bill can make you think twice about using it regularly.

Here are some tips to survive the heat wave and make your home summer ready!

1. Use blackout curtains or blinds
We’ve been socially taught to use light, see-through curtains for windows so wind can pass in and out. While correct, air nowadays is mostly humid so it’s bringing in hot air inside our homes making it more humid. Blackout curtains and blinds, like their name suggests, blocks light and wind from entering so we can expect that the temperature inside our homes is way lower than outside.

2. Switch to lightweight and breathable beddings
Comforters are great to snuggle for cool temperatures or when you set to full blast your AC. But with the Summer heat, this can make getting to sleep difficult as you tend to be covered with sweats while hiding under the (dis)comfort of ‘comforters’. Using light-colored cotton beddings can help your skin breath and avoid perspiration.

3. Position Fans in strategic places
We’re used with putting fans physically direct to us. However, a more effective way of using the electric fan is to place them in an area where it has access to natural air flow so it can help circulate the inflow of air in your homes. Hot or humid air tend to stay/linger so if you utilize the fan properly, it disrupts the humid air from lingering to a specific area.

4. Set-up hydration stations at home
Pretty basic right? But this needs further emphasis as most families and homes neglect this. When we’re thirsty, most homes have only the kitchen as the part of the house where they can have access to drinking water. So if you’re living in a multi-floored house, it can take effort to go to the kitchen and have a drink. Instead, you can set-up water dispenser in your hallways or areas of the house that is convenient to you. This way, you can satiate your thirst immediately when you need to.

5. Make homemade Juice/coolers
What better way to beat the Summer heat than preparing fresh, home made coolers using a Juicer or placing your fave beverages in the refrigerator. Unlike old appliances, new appliances are designed to be energy efficient. So make sure your appliances are energy-friendly so you minimize energy consumption and not significantly raise your electricity bill.

If you still have 5-year old appliances or older, you may need to upgrade them already or these may be the reason why your electricity bill is high. Check out appliances online from www.shoppingmall.ph
