Review: Dora and The Lost City of Gold is Surprisingly Fun Even For An Adult

REVIEW – If “Dora the Explorer” is not your childhood generation’s kiddie cartoon, you might find the kiddie show annoying. I haven’t seen a full single episode of Dora the Explorer but seeing it adapted to the big screen has captured my attention as to how it will work out. Surprisingly, Dora and The Lost City of Gold was fun and not boring even for someone who’s in their mid-30’s.

The leading lady, Isabela Moner, and the younger version of Dora physically looks and acts like the cartoon character. The movie even did a Dora signature direct address to the camera asking the audience several times like “Can you say ‘neurotoxicity’?”. It was surprisingly amusing, and I even responded to her question.

Dora transitioning from the forest to the city was hilarious. From what’s in the bag to “Hi, I’m Dora” to everyone just shows how funny it was to be ‘Dora’ in the real world. We know that Dora can survive the forest but will she survive high school? How will ‘Diego’ help Dora in the City life? The adventure movie has the same theme as Indiana Jones, but it stayed true in its kiddie carton identity.

The action in this live-action adaptation didn’t have to rely on the visual effects or a complicated story line. It focused on Dora’s character as she explored the forest, high school, and even how to win friends.
